Oldenburg Pop Art Sculptures

8th graders studied the art of Claes Oldenburg and his oversized, large scale public art. We discussed the pop art movement of everyday objects being part of fine art. Students could work individually or collaboratively on large scale sculptures. They had to construct an armature, sculpt and paint their creations. We filled the cafeteria with gigantic food!

Coil Baskets: Art from around the World.

Coil baskets are made around the world with all different functions, materials and forms. Students designed the form they would create in their sketchbooks and then watched how experimenting with the materials and new art form may change their design. Students met a heighth or diameter requirement.

Animal Effigy Vessel: A personal Symbol

Animal Effigy Vessels

After learning about Native American functional and decorative art, 6th grade students researched and chose a totem animal to represent in their functional and decorative vessel. Sketching designs from three different views of their vessel helped students to "think in the round" and create form from shape to make these dynamic pieces!

Why ART?

I teach art so students will recognize and appreciate true beauty, communicate from the very depths of their soul, be sensitive to life and the peoples within it. I teach art so students will have more love, more compassion, more gentleness -more life.
